Our Mission:
The Community Development Department provides professional redevelopment services, administers the City's subsidized housing program, and offers a number of commercial and residential assistance programs.
To accomplish its mission, the Community Development Department is made up of four separate divisions: Redevelopment, Planning, Building and Safety and Housing.
The responsibility for revitalizing blighted sections of Inglewood that have been designated as "Redevelopment Project Areas" by the City Council belongs to the Redevelopment Division, which acts as staff to the Redevelopment Agency. The Redevelopment Agency has been instrumental in developing a significant number of housing, office, industrial and urban infrastructure projects within the City since its formation in 1969.
The primary responsibility of the Planning Division is to provide property owners and tenants with guidance through the City's land use regulations. This division is also charged with producing a variety of planning studies, plans and environmental assessments that address the future use of the City's land resources.
The Building and Safety Division is also apart of the Community Development Department. The Building Division regulates construction and occupancy of all residential, commercial and industrial buildings in order to ensure life, fire and health safety.
The Housing Division is responsible for administering the subsidized housing program. The division manages housing assistance vouchers and rent subsidy programs, and ensures that contracted housing meets habitable standards.
