Results of Inglewood Trade Area Survey Released

The City of Inglewood’s Office of Economic and Business Development recently released the results of its Trade Area Survey. The purpose of the survey is to assist the City in assessing its strengths and weaknesses in providing quality/desired services and retail outlets to its residents. Inglewood residents who took the survey were provided the opportunity to voice their opinion regarding their retail, entertainment and resource needs.

The method of survey distribution included the following: publication within the Inglewood Today, surveys mailed to a list of active Inglewood Block Club members and employees of the City of Inglewood who also reside within the City. Of those distributed, a total of 122 surveys were completed.

The survey results indicated that the residents desire a mix of quality goods, services and entertainment options in their neighborhoods. The following information was gleaned from the surveys:

  • 53% of the respondents expressed that they prefer to shop locally
  • 80% go outside of the city of Inglewood to shop for clothes
  • 74% purchase shoes outside of Inglewood
  • 64% patronize entertainment venues in areas outside of Inglewood City.
  • Over 66% of those surveyed expressed that they shop in areas less than 5 miles from the city.

It is worth mentioning that the City has already begun taking steps toward improving its retail and service base. Three major development projects are in various stages of development and will bring high quality retail and housing into Inglewood. An expanded employment base and additional open space will also result from the development projects.

There is great promise in store for Inglewood residents. City officials have made economic development and community beautification as its priorities and staff is working aggressively to attract a diverse array of businesses to the City.
