The Imperial-Prairie Redevelopment Project Area was adopted in December, 1993 to address concerns relating to poor physical, social, and economic conditions existing within the Area’s boundaries. Primary concerns included dilapidated buildings, high crime rates, irregular sized and shaped parcels and airport noise. Residents and local officials were concerned about the negative impact such conditions would have on the area considered an important entry into the City of Inglewood, given the location of the Century Freeway.
The Project Area is comprised of 161 acres and contains a mix of residential, commercial-retail, industrial, and institutional land uses. The Area encompasses portions of two main arterials; Imperial Highway and Prairie Avenue. Both arterials generally include the commercial frontage as well as residential uses adjacent and behind the commercial area.
