Dedication of “The History of Transportation “ Mural Set for August 11, 2007

Saturday, August 11, 2007, has been set for dedication of the restored “The History of Transportation” mural in the new Grevillea Art Park at the corner of Manchester Boulevard and Grevillea Avenue. Scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m., the dedication of this historic landmark will mark the completion of a five-year restoration and relocation project.

The August 11th dedication is being planned by the Historic Site Preservation Committee and the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. Many individuals and agencies worked together to make the restoration happen and raised more than one million dollars from foundations, grants and private donations to complete the work.

The ceremonies will begin with a blessing of the new mural location by Native American Linda Gonzales and comments by elected officials and special guests.    Following the unveiling of the historic mural, entertainment will include a dance performance by members of  Grupo Folklorico Macias and entertainment by Delian Music  and other local musicians. Volunteers from the Historical Society of Centinela Valley will demonstrate pioneer crafts, costumed youth actors will portray individuals from the 1930’s and there will be an exhibit of classic cars. Plan to join the City of Inglewood in celebrating the restoration of one of the city’s most cherished historical landmarks.
