The Inglewood Public Library has successfully completed a Local History Digital Resources Project grant from the California Digital Library and the California State Library. Inglewood was selected as a participant in part in recognition of 2008 being the City's centennial year. The project provided for the digitization of 200 images, which now form the core of what will become a larger collection.
The digital images will be displayed in future months on this web site, but a collection of 183 images may be viewed on the website of the Online Archive of California. This image is the Inglewood Post Office, circa 1880. City departments, the Inglewood Unified School District, and the Inglewood-Airport Area Chamber of Commerce provided photographs and other materials.
The Inglewood Public Library is creating a Local History Room, in which we will assemble an archive of books, publications, government documents, and artifacts relating to the history of Inglewood and the surrounding area. When completed, the room will be available to the public when the Administrative Office is open and by appointment.
