Merchants were excited at the options to play a more active role in the Market Street festival on Saturday. Twenty-two of the businesses participated in the free raffle. Some of the items won by lucky attendees include a lady’s Citizen watch, a Sugar Ray Leonard autographed pair of boxing gloves, dinner for 2, tickets to a theater show or concert, a pre-paid cellular phone, gift certificates, clothing, and much more. The City also encouraged merchants to take their wares outside for sidewalk sales to better mesh with the activities on the street. A number opted to offer a raffle item, others took their merchandize outside and a few even executed both. An added bonus for festival attendees was that the winners didn’t have to be present to win.
With heavy rains the night before, the success of the Market Street Festival was unclear. Yet, as the early morning rays shone through the blinds the next morning, it was as if the festival hadn’t skipped a beat. The spirit, energy and rhythm of the festival was pumping throughout the day as two stages had back-to-back music and dance performances. Inglewood’s own local radio station KJLH added a level of spontaneity at their Manchester and Market Street location. The annual car and art car shows were featured, as were the food vendors that have become staples to the festival. New merchants complimented those merchants that have become regulars to this celebration. There were plenty of activities to keep both the young and old busy and entertained includling the "Kid Zone" games and crafts area.
