The City of Inglewood and Inglewood Unified School District will celebrate the life and achievements of Cesar Chavez with a Unity March, Recognition Ceremony and Celebration on Saturday, March 25, 2006.
The Celebration will get underway at 10:30 a.m. at Hollywood Park Gate 8 just (East of Prairie Avenue).
The March will be led by State and local officials joined by residents and community groups. Marchers will leave the gates of Hollywood Park at 10:45 a.m. and will travel east on Pincay Drive (formerly 90th Street) to Darby Park (via the Pincay Drive entrance).
Immediately following the March, the celebration will continue at 11:00 a.m. on the grounds of Darby Park, located at 3400 West Arbor Vitae, with live performances by Grupo Folklorico Macias, Danza Huitzilopochtli, El Benadito Estrada and Mariachi Juvenil Guadalajara.
Highlighting the celebration will be presentations by the dynamic winners of the Cesar Chavez Day speech contest. Winners were selected in four grade categories representing the early elementary (K-2), elementary (3-5), middle school (6-8) and high school (9-12) grade levels.
Activities have been planned for the entire family and include interactive and carnival style games, face painting, and arts and crafts. There will also be a soccer tournament - the 3rd Annual Cesar Chavez Day Cup.
